What should I name my company?

0

I’m preparing to set up a small publishing company in Northern Wales, but all of the names I had initially considered appear to be in use by other limited companies. I’ve got a few other ideas, but I am just curious how other business owners might have come up with the ideas for their company names. Do you have any useful advice?

That’s a pity that all of your name ideas have been taken! You can always try altering the names a little bit, but you do not want a company name that could be mistaken for a different business with a similar name.

  • Try to think of a name that will effectively communicate the activities and/or values of your company.
  • Choose a name that will stand the test of time - nothing that could become outdated or irrelevant really quickly, and nothing that is too gimmicky.
  • Avoid names that are ambiguous, misleading or offensive.
  • Avoid using localised or geographical terms - it is not always a good idea to tie your company to a certain area in case you want to expand or move in the future.

One of the best ways to come up with a great name is to brainstorm on a large sheet of paper - write down all the words and terms that come to mind when you think about your business and your products or services. It doesn’t matter if some of these things seem silly, just write them down because they might prove useful. Eventually, the perfect name will just jump out at you, and hopefully it will available to register!
