How do I register a company?

0

So, I’ve just quit my job and I’m going to go into business for myself. It’s all very terrifying, if I’m being honest! I think it will be good, but my problem is I’ve got no clue how to make my new business ‘official’. How do you go about registering a new company? Like, are there certain forms you have to fill out? And who do you have to deal with to get it done?

Yes, you will have to fill out an application form for Companies House (the government body responsible for incorporating limited companies in the UK) if you want to set up a company. There are three ways you do this:

  • Online using Companies House Web Incorporation Service - processing time approx. 2 days
  • Through Companies House using their postal application form - processing time approx. 10 days
  • Online through a company formation agent - processing time approx. 3 working hours

A company formation agent is the easiest option. It’s all done online through an advanced, fast-track system, so it’s cheaper and quicker than the two options from Companies House. There’s no paperwork involved - all you need to do is fill out the simple form and your chosen agent will submit it to Companies House.

It shouldn’t take any longer than 3 hours for your company registration to be finalised. When you receive a confirmation email and your incorporation documents, you can start trading through your company whenever you like.
