How can I find out if a company is trading?

0

Hi, I’m trying to figure out how to find out whether a company is actually trading or not. I would like to use a company name that has been used by another company in the past. But the business in question appears to be shut down, potentially freeing up the name for myself. But I don’t know whether the company has actually shut down in the eyes of Companies House or not. Do you know how I can find this information out?

You can find out the trading status of any company registered in the UK by searching the Companies House register via WebCHeck. Just enter the name of the company in the search box and you will see whether that company is active (trading), dormant (registered but currently inactive) or dissolved (officially closed).

If the company is dissolved, you can you the same name. If it is active or dormant, it still exists so you cannot use the company name.
