Is there a minimum age for company directors in the UK?

0

Hi

I’m looking to form a limited company in Scotland, although I don’t actually know if I can be in charge of it. I’m only 17, so not a proper adult, strictly speaking. But I’ve got a great idea and people willing to back me. Can I name myself as my own company director, or am I too young?

Thanks

The minimum age requirement for company directors is 16, so you can certainly register a limited company and run it by yourself if you are 16 years old or above.

It is a very responsible role with lots of important legal duties, so do familiarise yourself with all of your obligations before committing to setting up your company. Perhaps consider appointing an additional director or a company secretary to help you with your responsibilities.
