Can a company accountant be a company director?

Hello, there. I am an accountant at a private limited company. One of our company directors is planning to retire at the end of the year, and wanted to know if I wanted to take his place as director. I would love to accept the role, but can a company accountant be a company director? Will I need to resign as accountant to become a director, or are there any rules about this I must adhere to? Thanks for your help.

Yes, a company accountant can also be a director of the same company, unless he or she is:

  • An undischarged bankrupt
  • A disqualified director of another company
  • The auditor of the company.
