What is the difference between a dormant company and a dissolved company?

I have been doing business with a cosmetics company for years and years, but I’ve just been in touch with the owner and she says that her company has been made dormant. Does that mean the company is dissolved, or is this different?

A dormant company is one that is currently registered at Companies House but is inactive. Dormant companies do carry on any business activities whatsoever, but they are ready-to-trade if the owners wish to begin doing so.

A dissolved company is one that was registered at Companies House but no longer exists because it has since been closed down and stuck off the register.
