How long does it take to register a dormant company?

Hi

I’m trying to register a dormant company, and I’d like to do it as quickly as I possibly can. Could you please give me an idea of how long it’s supposed to take? Just let me know, thanks.

All in all, it will take about 2 weeks to make a new company dormant:

  1. The company formation process itself takes about 3 hours if you register online through a company formation agent.
  2. When your company has been formed, you should then get in touch with your local Corporation Tax office to tell them that your company is dormant.
  3. HMRC will send a reply to your registered office address within approximately 2 weeks to acknowledge and confirm that your company is dormant.

You shouldn’t have any further need to contact HMRC until your company starts trading or it is wound up.
