Does a dormant company need to file an annual return?

Good morning!

I’ve got a quick question about dormant companies. I’m considering setting one up, but I don’t really know much about how all of the mandatory paperwork is handled. I know that normal limited companies always have to file an Annual Return. Is it the same deal for dormant limited companies?

Thank you

Yes, dormant companies must complete annual returns for Companies House every year. The reason you have to do this is because Companies House requires annual confirmation of your company details to make sure they are correctly recorded on public record. So, even if your company details have remained unchanged, you still need to send in an annual return.

Dormant companies must also submit dormant annual accounts to Companies House within 9 months of their accounting reference date.
