Why would someone register a non-trading company?

A friend told me she was going to register a non-trading company, and I’m pretty confused. If you’re not going to trade, why start a company? I don’t get it.

There are many reasons why someone would register a non-trading company, such as:

  • Preparing a business to start trading at a later date
  • Holding assets
  • Owning shares in another company
  • Setting up a company to be a director of another company or a second LLP member
  • Protecting a company name

Non-trading companies can be made active at any time if the owner wishes to start trading.
