Do I have to contact HMRC to dissolve a limited company?

I need to dissolve a limited company as quickly as I can. If I want to do this, am I going to need to contact HMRC? Or can it be done without telling them?

You must apply to Companies House to dissolve a limited company but HMRC must also be notified of your intention within 7 days of sending the application to the registrar.

The director of your company is responsible for contacting each department of HMRC that the company is registered with, including Corporation Tax, VAT and PAYE. You will then be advised of the appropriate actions to take.

Prior to the company being struck off the register, you will be expected to send your final tax returns, accounts, tax payments and PAYE reports to HMRC.
