Can I use the word 'United Kingdom' in my company name?

Are there any particular rules about using the words “United Kingdom” in my company name? It sounds like the sort of thing that may not be allowed, but I wasn’t sure. Better safe than sorry, I figured.

Yes, this is permitted. ‘United Kingdom’ is no longer specified as a sensitive word under the Company, Limited Liability Partnership and Business Names (Sensitive Words and Expressions) Regulations 2014. This replaced the 2009 Regulations of the same name on 31st January 2015 as a result of the government’s Red Tape Challenge.

Prior to the changes to business name restrictions, companies were not permitted to include ‘United Kingdom’ in their registered names without satisfying certain requirements and seeking approval from Companies House.
