Can LLPs be publicly owned?

0

I am thinking about forming an LLP. Eventually, we would like to go public - by eventually, I mean years from now, obviously. But I’m just wondering whether LLPs even can go public. Is this allowed, or would we need to incorporate as something different? Thanks

LLPs cannot sell equity stakes to anyone who is not a partner in the business, so they cannot be publicly owned. You would have to set up a public limited company, transfer the business and its assets and then wind up the LLP. You would then be able to sell company shares to outside investors.
