Do I need a certificate of good standing?

Hello, I’ve been working with a new limited company, and I had a question about certificates of good standing. Previous companies I’ve worked with have had to obtain them, but my new company hasn’t got one. Does my company actually need one?

Hi Daniel,

There is no legal requirement for a limited company to obtain a certificate of good standing but you may be asked to produce one if you are applying for a loan, seeking additional investors or planning to do business abroad.

A certificate allows third parties to see that you and your company are credible and dependable because one will only be issued if your company is in good standing with Companies House.
