Why is my business address made public?

I want to set up a limited company, but want to maintain a bit of privacy. I understand that I’m meant to provide a business address that will subsequently be made public. Is there any particular reason why this address has to be made public?

There are two company addresses that must be displayed on the public register of companies - the registered office address and the director’s service address. These addresses are used by Companies House and HMRC for statutory mailing purposes.

If you want to set up a general business address for your clients and other important contacts, there is no need to give this address to Companies House or display it on public record.

To maintain your privacy as much as possible, I would suggest using professional address services rather than your home address. Take a look at our Registered Office Service, Director’s Service Address and Business Address facilities for an idea of what you can expect.
