Is an annual return the same as a tax return?

Hey, I’m trying to figure out this return stuff. Is an annual return the same as a tax return? I’ve already filed the latter, so I’m just wondering whether I could be saving a lot more time in my life with all of these stupid filing tasks.

No, an annual return is completely different from a tax return:

  • An annual return must be prepared for Companies House at least once every 12 months. The purpose of this document is to confirm important company details that are disclosed on public record.
  • A company tax return must be prepared for HMRC every year. The purpose of the tax return is to tell HMRC how much money your company has spent and received, and how much Corporation Tax it owes for the year.

If you’re finding it a hassle to do these things yourself, you should think about appointing an accountant to help you.
