Do I need to tell Companies House if my company is not trading?

My company is no longer actively trading as of this week. Will Companies House automatically know that, or do I need to let them know?

No, you do not have to contact Companies House to tell them that your company is not trading but you must tell HMRC as soon as possible by contacting the Corporation Tax office.

Companies House will find out that your company is not currently trading when you file your next annual accounts. You will have to prepare dormant company accounts instead of normal accounts.

There is no need to prepare statutory accounts for HMRC whilst your company is dormant, unless you were trading for part of your Corporation Tax accounting period and are required to submit a Company Tax Return for that period of activity.
