What company director information is placed on the Companies House public record?

Evening - I’m very nervous about this idea that my personal information is going to go on some sort of public record as a company director. Could somebody provide me with a quick rundown of exactly what information will be going public?

Many people are initially concerned about the disclosure of corporate and personal information when they register a limited company, but there really is nothing to be worried about unless you genuinely feel that the disclosure of your name could put you at serious risk of harm.

The following information about each director of your company will be made available to the public:

  • Full name
  • Former names used for business purposes within the past 20 years
  • Month and year of birth
  • Nationality
  • Country of residence
  • Service address
  • Business occupation - if you provide one

A service address is an official contact address that Companies House and HMRC use to send statutory correspondence to a director. If you want to keep your home address private, you should use an alternate address as your service address. You can purchase a professional service address from a company formation agent and have your mail forwarded to your home.

If you are really not keen on your other details being made available to the public, you could use a nominee director service. This will allow you to appoint a third party to take your place on public record but you will still be responsible for running the company.
