What is a WebFiling Authentication Code?

Afternoon. I am attempting to log into Companies House WebFiling for the first time, but it isn’t letting me log in. It says I need an authentication code. What is that and where am I supposed to find it?

A WebFiling authentication code is a 6 alphanumeric code that serves as the digital equivalent of a company director’s signature for online filing. This enables you to securely access, change and file company information online through Companies House WebFiling service.

To request an authentication code, you will have to register for WebFiling by following these steps:

  1. Enter an email address
  2. Create a password
  3. Click ‘Request an authentication code’ at the bottom of the next page
  4. Select your company’s country or registration
  5. Enter your company registration number and click ‘Continue’
  6. Review your company information and click ‘Request Code’

Companies House will send a unique authentication code to your registered office address. When you receive it, you can sign in to WebFiling with the code and your password. You will then be able to view your company details and filing deadlines, sign up for eReminders, change company details online and file annual accounts at Companies House.
