What is Companies House Direct (CHD)?

We are trying to learn more about a dissolved company that used to sport the name we’d like to use for a new limited company. It’s been recommended that we use Company House Direct. What exactly is this service? I’ve never heard of it, and am sceptical.

Companies House Direct (CHD) provides public access to all of the records they hold for the previous 20 years. You have to be a registered user to access this information through CHD so you will have to create an account. There is a monthly subscription fee of £4 and it costs £1 per image download.

The company information and facilities are available on Companies House Direct includes:

  • Document images of all company records from the past 20 years
  • Company reports
  • Company appointments

  • Disqualified directors
  • Insolvency details
  • Company monitor service
  • Order ordering of certified copies of certificates - certificate of good standing, certificate of incorporation with certified facts, and a certified copy of a document held on the companies register.

Basic company information and certain company documents are free to access online via Companies House new Beta Service and WebCHeck facility, so you should check out those free services first before registering for CHD.
