What if a bank refuses to open a business bank account for my company?

I applied to open a business bank account with Barclays, but my application has been refused. I am a non-resident who has just set up a limited by shares company in London if that matters. Could someone please give me advice? I do not know what to do now.

Thank you

It would be useful to confirm why your application was rejected, but I imagine it has something to do with the fact you do not live in the UK. It can be really difficult to open a business bank account in the UK if you reside overseas because most banks require at least one director to have a UK address.

I would advise contacting Lloyds and HSBC to see if they can help. Otherwise, it may be easier to open an account in your own country. This is perfectly acceptable even though your company is registered in the UK. You will need to get your company formation documents legalised to authenticate them for your bank. You can apply for document legalisation online.

I hope you manage to resolve this situation quickly. Best of luck.
