What happens if I lose my certificate of incorporation?

I’ve lost the certificate of incorporation that I got from my company formation agent - I don’t think I ever got a paper one, I think I just received a digital one in the email they sent to tell me that my company had been registered.

Unfortunately, I don’t have access to that email account anymore because I set up a new one. I stupidly didn’t download and save a copy of the certificate so I need to get a new one for my records. Can anyone advise?

This happens more than you think so don’t worry about it, it’s easy to get a copy of your certificate. The best way is to simply search for your company using the free beta service from Companies House:

  • Enter your company name
  • Click on it when it appears under the search box
  • Go to ‘Filing History’
  • Filter by ‘Incorporation’ or just scroll down to the bottom of the page
  • Select ‘View PDF’ next to the ‘Incorporation’ file that appears
  • Save and print a copy of your certificate of incorporation.

That’s it. Nice and easy!
