How can I get a copy of my certificate of incorporation?

Is it possible to find a copy of the certificate of incorporation I received for a company I set up 4 years ago? I’ve never actually needed to use it for a long time, but I’m applying for a business loan and the bank has asked to see the certificate. Unfortunately, I can’t find it anywhere so I’m a little concerned. I assume I can get a new one from Companies House though? I hope!

That’s not a problem at all. You can get a copy of your incorporation certificate in a number of ways:

  1. Free of charge through Companies House beta service - simply search for you company and access a scanned copy of all filings since the date of incorporation. You can save and print your certificate free of charge
  2. Company documents can be ordered through the WebCHeck service. You will be charged £1 per document.
  3. If you registered through a company formation agent, you will have a client account on their website. Sign in (or contact them if you have forgotten your details) to access a digital copy of your certificate.
  4. If you set up your company online, either through Companies House or via an agent, your incorporation documents would have been attached to an email and sent to you when your registration was approved - search your emails and downloads to see if you can find these documents.
  5. Contact Companies House by phone or email to request a replacement printed copy. You will have to pay £20.

I hope this helps. Good luck.
