Can a guarantor be sued for more than their guarantee of a limited company?

My company was formed as Limited by Guarantee (£5000). The company is dissolved. We had several investors, who want their investments back. The Guarantor has paid more than the £5000 in total to various investors. They are demanding money from the directors. But we do not have the means to do so, even on a goodwill basis.
